Speaking of tobacco use
Thoughts on the decision last night that will prevent the hookah bar from opening in town?

I was not a fan of the hookah bar, but I think the arguments against it were ridiculously reliant on the argument that tobacco is bad for you (which iit is; however it is also legal). But even more so, I'm disturbed by the fact that the city approved it, let the backers invest significant money, and then changed their minds. The city is going to end up paying some serious money to these people, and in these cash-strapped times, I am not pleased by that.

Just wondered if anyone else had thoughts.

my thoughts exactly.
If we're a smoke-free city, then why on earth did it ever pass to begin with?

Yeah, I hadn't know about this! That seems... silly.

However, I could care less whether a hookah bar opened up. Maybe it would be nice to have at least ONE place where smokers could still smoke. (I don't smoke, for the record.)

I was against it to begin with... its a way to make smoking trendy and attract younger people to the hip vibe in order to make money.. people who run places like this just make money off other people's addiction and in the long run potentially their death by lung cancer. I think its really problematic.

It may not be illegal but it probably should be. We pull prescription drugs off the market all the time, if they cause a small handful of deaths... smoking kills approx. 186,000 people a year and we keep selling cigarettes. Why?
